MacArthur is contributing $10 million to an international philanthropic initiative to reduce methane emissions around the world. The more than $200 million fund is the largest private pledge to date to address the powerful greenhouse gas that drives at least 25 percent of today’s warming.

It includes support for the Global Methane Pledge, spearheaded by the United States and European Union to reduce methane emissions by 30 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2050.

These creative and inspiring individuals have shown exceptional creativity, and will each receive a $625,000, no-strings-attached grant.

This afternoon we announced the 2021 MacArthur Fellows! As MacArthur’s Cecilia Conrad said, “this class of 25 Fellows helps us reimagine what’s possible. They demonstrate that creativity has no boundaries. It happens in all fields of endeavor, among the relatively young and more seasoned, in Iowa and Puerto Rico.”
