Last week Community Solutions made some news by earning a $100 million grant in the MacArthur Foundation’s 100&Change competition. With the grant, they will implement and scale Built for Zero, their data-driven public health approach to accelerating an end to homelessness. Ending homelessness has the potential to strengthen communities, improve health outcomes, and enhance economic well-being.
Alongside Inside Philanthropy’s coverage of their “data driven” approach, check out just some of their news features:

Earlier this week, we witnessed another senseless and horrific killing of eight people in Atlanta, six of whom were women of Asian descent. We stand in solidarity with our Asian and Asian-American grantees and partners, for whom this act of violence must be particularly upsetting and galvanizing.
This latest act of anti-Asian violence brings to mind several important facts. One is that we are far from out of the long…
Globally, the pandemic has exacerbated existing inequalities for women, trans people, and children who are Indigenous or ethnic-minorities. To ensure an equitable recovery, it is essential to address their specific needs and respond to increased gender-based violence, a rise in racism, reduced access to healthcare, fewer safe spaces, limited access to technology, and unequal workloads. We awarded grants to organizations that are uniquely situated to develop strategies with and for communities based on long-term relationships, a keen awareness of locally defined needs, and culturally appropriate responses. Organizations receiving grants include:
From the Museum and Science and Industry to the Field Museum, from the American Indian Center to the Newberry Library and Hyde Park Art Center, our grantees have some really cool programming in the hopper as they start to reopen and spring arrives.
A quick snapshot of some of the media coverage they have received:
Every year we award MacArthur Fellowships of $625,000 to individuals who display an extraordinary amount of talent and creativity. The no-strings-attached Fellowships encourage talented and creative people to pursue their intellectual and professional endeavors.
On International Women’s Day, we wanted to highlight the voices of a few women who are among the 1000+ MacArthur Fellows. We present these reflections as a way to uplift their personal stories and aspirations, share their collective challenges and triumphs, and shed light on their work to help make the world a better place.
